PFAS in Fire Fighting Agents

Whitepaper “PFAS in Fire Fighting Agents”

The regulation of PFAS-containing fire extinguishing agents is creating new challenges for companies and public institutions. With the EU ban on PFAS-containing foam extinguishers an important deadline is approaching: from 23 October 2026 onwards, such fire extinguishers may no longer be placed on the market. This is based on the EU restriction “PFAS in Fire Extinguishers”, which came into force in October 2025.

Due to their extremely stable chemical structure, PFAS are considered persistent environmental pollutants and potentially harmful to human health. Large quantities of PFAS-containing firefighting foams have already entered soils and waterways worldwide – an issue the EU now aims to address through targeted regulation.

What does this mean in practice for operators, companies, and public institutions? Which legal requirements apply, and how can the transition to PFAS-free alternatives be successfully implemented?

The whitepaper “PFAS in Fire Fighting Agents – Risks, Legal Frameworks and Recommended Actions” provides answers to these questions. It summarizes the key information in a concise format, highlights the need for action, and explains how GLORIA supports businesses during the transition process.
