Smoke alarm/CO detector

Two-thirds of house and apartment fires occur at night. When people are asleep, they are unaware of the toxic smoke and fire gases that spread within seconds; they lose consciousness. The smoke also obscures escape routes, limiting orientation in an emergency. Our smoke alarms help quickly and precisely day and night and thus create the often life-saving time advantage and can even enable the use of the ready-to-hand GLORIA fire extinguisher in case of incipient fires. That is why more and more federal states prescribe smoke detectors.

How a small device protects the family for many years. In the event of a fire, smoke is often an underestimated danger. Most fires start at night. It then becomes particularly dangerous for the sleeping occupants. The human sense of smell functions only to a very limited extent and fatal smoke poisoning can occur within a few minutes. The small, inconspicuous device responds to the fire hazard with a loud alarm signal and can thus save lives as well as protect belongings from possible major damage.

The right detector. You can rely on the detectors from the GLORIA product family in an emergency - and with a guarantee promise of up to 10 years. GLORIA smoke detectors with 10, 5, or 2 years of battery life always have a hush function for manual muting in addition to the test function. Detectors with bi-sensor technology detect not only smoke but also heat and are considered suitable for use in kitchens. Only particularly high-quality detectors are allowed to carry the Q-label. These are characterized by tested durability, reduction of false alarms, increased stability, and a permanently installed 10-year battery.

Stand-alone or wireless networkable? In cases of distant premises, the purchase of radio-networkable smoke alarms can make sense. The advantage is the simultaneous alarming of all networked devices, even if only one detector detects smoke.

Smoke alarm obligation in Germany. The smoke alarm obligation is defined in the respective state building regulations and is subject to the application standard DIN 14676. The uniform rule is that at least one smoke alarm must be installed in bedrooms, children's rooms and corridors over which escape routes from common rooms lead. If, in the event of fire damage, it turns out that, due to missing or improperly operated smoke alarms, demonstrably larger property damage was accepted, this can lead to the loss of the complete insurance coverage in the liability insurance. For tenants, it is advisable to discuss installation/maintenance and rights and obligations with the landlord.

Legally required areas of use (minimum protection)

• Bedrooms and guest rooms
• Children's rooms
• Corridors, staircases, and passage rooms that serve as escape routes for the fire department

Additionally, recommended areas of use (optimum protection) 

• All recreation rooms (e.g. living room or study, hobby rooms, dining room)*
• Habitable recreational vehicles such as caravans, mobile homes, motor caravans, sport, or houseboats.
• Only use smoke alarms with proven additional suitability (Annex L).

* already mandatory in Berlin/Brandenburg.

Rooms to be protected. At least all red-framed areas of the GLORIA house cross-section must be protected with smoke alarms throughout Germany. If possible, install the detector on the ceiling in the middle of a room with a maximum size of 60m². In the case of sloping roofs, installation options are described in the operating instructions. Larger rooms or partition walls/furniture walls require the installation of additional devices for the best possible monitoring. 

Common causes of fire. According to research by the Institute for Loss Prevention and Research, since 2002, fires related to electronics (e.g., cable fires) have topped the list by a considerable margin at 30%, followed by other or unknown causes, tied with human error (22%) and overheating (9%).
